Here are a few metal recycling tips from Upstate Metal Recycling to help prepare you for collecting.

1. Know what types of scrap metals are purchased in your area. It is hard to find/make money with scrap metal if you do not know what exactly is purchased in your surrounding area. Visit Upstate Metal Recycling in Fort Wayne, Indiana or visit their website to get a list of what they will purchase and an idea of prices. For Upstate, prices fluctuate but every Wednesday the pricing list is updated to the most current prices.

2. Don’t waste time just randomly wandering around your area looking for scrap. Try your best to be aware of the trash routes in town. There are also several places where people throw cans. Big money making scrap can be found around homes and neighborhood that are being remodeled. This can be a gold mine for scrap that has been thrown away.

3. Keep your scrap metal fairly organized. By keeping your scrap metal organized you will learn better what you are finding and ways to maximize the money that you make. Also make sure you’re aware of how the scrap recycler wants the scrap. Upstate’s not picky, but some scrap yards have rules for how things must be prepared for smoother transactions.

You should now have a better understanding of the best way to approach your scrap finding and selling endeavors. Have fun with the collection and money making process!
